Why I’m going back to watching Heroes via torrents

I’m glad NBC is posting the Heroes series on its site. Heroes‘ schedule isn’t my own. So, I decided I would put up with NBC’s “limited commercial interruptions” because downloading torrents takes time, too.

But, the mistake of hitting the “reload” button on my browser, which slammed the NBC video player all the way back to the beginning. And guess which parts you can’t fast forward over? Plus, now the ads are freezing, so I’ll have to restart again, and watch the same damn Silver Surfer ads again. (Every time I see that ad, I think again about how bad the movie looks.)

Torrents may be a pain in the butt, but at least once they run, I can control what I’m looking at. Plus, the picture is bigger and clearer.

So, NBC, you’re going to have to do better to compete with free. [Tags: ]

Hey, David, why not do what I did? Invest in a DVR. Best money I’ve ever spent.

Tom, I have three DVRs (if you count MythTV, which after 1.5 yrs of trying I still can’t get to work). But because I knew that opening a newspaper on Mon would give away Sunday’s finale, I watched it on Sunday (a couple of hours after it aired).

    DVRs make television watchable.

I totally agree re:DVR’s. I remember back in the olden days (when fortran was not even twotran) and I had to set my VCR (or have some kid do it for me) so I could watch my soap opera. Tapes took up lots of space and they were WAY too easy to mislabel or record over.

That being said, did you like the finale?

    I did like the finale.

I was tending toward the idea that Tony got whacked until I read a letter to the editor somewhere in which someone (vague enough attribution for you) said that it was the _audience_ that got whacked…just sudden blackness, without neat completion. I like that idea.
